MG Unveils Next-Gen Technology Roadmap: Driving the Future of Intelligent Mobility with Advanced Electrification and ADAS

Next-Gen Plug-in Hybrid+: Debuting a high-efficiency powertrain with over 42% thermal efficiency and a 0–62mph time under 6 seconds.
SolidCore Battery Breakthrough: MG becomes the first automaker to bring mass-produced semi-solid-state battery technology to the PHEV market.

European-Tuned ADAS: Outlining the future of driver assistance, including "One Touch iAD" parking, Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) by 2027, and Level 4 Robotaxi trials.

Building on more than a century of innovation, MG has officially unveiled its comprehensive technology roadmap at MG Tech Day, hosted at its UK headquarters in London. The roadmap outlines a bold vision to democratize advanced electrification and intelligent driving systems, ensuring cutting-edge automotive technology is accessible, useful, and optimized for everyday drivers.

Next-Generation Plug-in Hybrid+ Technology

MG’s all-new Plug-in Hybrid+ system seamlessly blends advanced mechanical engineering with intelligent electrification. Designed to eliminate the compromises of traditional hybrids, the system automatically adapts across all speeds: utilizing pure electric drive at low speeds, power-split operation at medium speeds, and direct engine drive on the motorway.

Key Technical Highlights:

  • High-Efficiency Engines: Dedicated 1.1-litre and 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid petrol engines achieving exceptional maximum thermal efficiencies of more than 42% and 43% respectively.
  • Dual-Technology Transmission: Integrates Power Split technology (to continuously optimize energy flow without fixed-ratio limits) and Motor Decoupling (which completely isolates the generator during EV driving to eliminate drag).
  • Uncompromised Efficiency: Maintains a thermal efficiency above 40% across approximately 90% of driving conditions, achieving up to 90% electric drive efficiency.
  • Refined Cabin Experience: Motor Decoupling reduces noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) by up to 5dB in EV mode, offering a quiet ride comparable to a pure battery electric vehicle (BEV).

Performance Metrics:

  • 0–62mph Acceleration: Under 6 seconds.
  • 50–75mph Over-taking: As little as 3.5 seconds.
  • Hill-Start Capability: Improved by up to 72% for maximum gradient confidence.
Launch Timeline: The next-generation Plug-in Hybrid+ technology will debut commercially in 2027, spearheaded by the launch of the all-new MG ZS Plug-in Hybrid+.

SolidCore Battery Innovation

In a major industry milestone, MG has confirmed that its pioneering SolidCore Battery technology will be integrated into future Plug-in Hybrid+ models. As the first automotive manufacturer to achieve mass production of semi-solid-state batteries, MG is utilizing a 3D spinel structure to deliver faster power response and superior energy conversion compared to traditional liquid-electrolyte batteries.

Customer Benefits:

  • Climate Resilience: Drastically reduces the performance degradation typically caused by low ambient temperatures.
  • Consistent Output: Delivers predictable, repeatable power and improved range stability, even when the battery charge is heavily depleted.
Product Rollout: SolidCore technology will first feature in three new MG SUVs spanning the highly competitive B, C, and D segments.

Real-World ADAS: "In Europe, for Europe"

Rather than developing software in sterile lab environments, MG has collected more than 1.2 million kilometres of real-world driving data across 24 European countries. This data ensures MG’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are precisely calibrated for European road layouts, complex roundabouts, narrow lanes, and shared tramways.

MG One Touch iAD Parking Assistance

Derived from MG’s premium IM models, this system addresses everyday European parking frustrations across more than 30 complex scenarios and 300 space types:

  • One Touch Park: Automatically detects bays and maneuvers the vehicle at low speeds.
  • One Touch Kerbside Parking (MG Exclusive): Effortlessly guides the vehicle alongside tight walls or kerbs.
  • One Touch Pull Out: Safely adjusts the exit angle when boxed into a tight space.
  • One Touch Reverse: Memorizes the vehicle's exact path for up to 100 metres, automatically reversing back through tight dead-ends or narrow alleys while monitoring for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Roadmap to Autonomy: Navigate On Autopilot & Level 4

MG Pilot continues to evolve from standard driver assistance toward predictive autonomous driving, structured around a clear timeline:

FeatureOperational DomainCapabilityExpected Launch
Highway NOAMotorways & Structured Roads Assists with entering/exiting, lane selection, overtaking, and lane changes under driver supervision. Late 2027 (Debuting on a new MG SUV)
Urban NOAComplex City Environments Navigates intersections, traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, and cyclists. 2028
Level 4 RobotaxiDefined Operational Areas Fully autonomous driving without driver input. Currently undergoing active trials in Germany, the Middle East, and China. TBD (Testing Phase)

By shifting the benchmark for hybrid efficiency, pioneering semi-solid-state batteries, and adapting autonomous safety software directly to local driving habits, MG is ensuring that the next era of intelligent mobility delivers genuine, everyday value to drivers worldwide.
