Changan is set to expand its European footprint with the introduction of a high-efficiency electrified powertrain for its intelligent and dynamic C-segment SUV. The CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV will debut as the first model to feature the brand's innovative Ultra-Hybrid technology, meticulously engineered to balance emission-free urban commuting with effortless long-distance capability.
Developed with crucial input from Changan’s UK-based R&D centre, the DEEPAL S05 PHEV utilizes the advanced BlueCore platform. The system is optimized to deliver the refined, seamless driving characteristics of an EV during low-speed urban crawling and stop-and-go traffic, whilst eliminating range anxiety for longer journeys. Pre-orders for the UK market will officially open this summer ahead of first deliveries in September.
The powertrain pairs a potent 172 kW permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor (PMSM) with a highly efficient 63 kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, generating a combined total system output of 190 kW.
An 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery feeds the electric motor. The battery supports 11 kW AC charging and comes equipped with 55 kW DC fast-charging capability as standard. Enhancing its lifestyle appeal, the DEEPAL S05 PHEV also features standard Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing users to power external electrical devices directly from the car.
Nic Thomas, Managing Director at Changan UK, commented: "We believe drivers shouldn’t have to compromise when making the switch to electrified driving. The Deepal S05 PHEV delivers the exact blend of range, efficiency, and everyday flexibility that modern drivers require, packaged within a premium, high-quality SUV. It’s about offering our customers superior choice, capability, and exceptional value without sacrificing a sophisticated feel. We are incredibly excited to introduce this compelling new option to our UK line-up this summer."
The CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV boasts highly competitive efficiency metrics, achieving a weighted combined fuel economy of 139 mpg (2.0L/100km) under WLTP cycles, with weighted CO₂ emissions limited to just 47 g/km. Even with a depleted battery, the vehicle maintains an efficient consumption rate of 52.3 mpg (5.4L/100km).
Demonstrating Changan's absolute confidence in its build quality, the DEEPAL S05 PHEV is backed by a market-leading 7-year or 100,000-mile vehicle warranty, alongside a specialized 8-year or 124,000-mile warranty covering the vehicle’s three primary electrical systems.
Following an initial rollout in select European markets, UK order books will open mid-summer, with deliveries starting in September. Final UK pricing and detailed specifications will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
