BEARMAN AND DOUBLE FOR TRAMNITZ AT THE RED BULL RING IN ROUND 5 OF THE ITALIAN F.4 CHAMPIONSHIP POWERED BY ABARTH

In round 5 of the Italian series on the Red Bull Ring circuit, victories for Oliver Bearman in race 1 and Tim Tramnitz in the two races on Sunday, one in the sun, the other in a downpour.
Among the rookies, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Francesco Braschi and Nicolas Baptiste took their first win of the season.
In the overall rankings, Bearman is nearing the title, with Patrese returning to the top of the rookie standings.

Round 5 of the Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth Certified by FIA was won by Oliver Bearman (GBR – Van Amersfoort Racing) and Tim Tramnitz (GER – US Racing). The Brit won race 1, while the German driver – on his return to the series – took race 2 on a dry track and an exciting race 3, where the big names were forced back into the pit to change their tires right after the start. Among the rookies, the Red Bull Ring weekend saw first victories for Andrea Kimi Antonelli (ITA – Prema Powerteam) – making his very first appearance in the series, Francesco Braschi (ITA – Jenzer Motorsport) and Nicolas Baptiste (COL – Cram Motorsport).

On the Austrian circuit, deep in the green of the Styrian Alps, there was no shortage of entertainment with 32 Tatuus single-seaters powered by the 160-hp Abarth T-Jet engine, closely derived from the one in the 595 and 695 road cars. The young drivers in the Italian series promoted by ACI Sport produced three exciting races with constant plot twists, even on the technical track of the Red Bull Ring. With events scheduled in Mugello on October 10th and in Monza on October 31st, the end of the season will be decisive in crowning the 2021 champions.

In race 1, Oliver Bearman (GBR – Van Amersfoort Racing) started from the second row. After a few laps, he took the lead in the race, taking advantage of a mistake made by Sebastian Montoya (COL – Prema Powerteam), who slid down into third. Tim Tramnitz (GER – US Racing) held second until the end of the race, with Bearman scoring his eighth victory and Montoya on the podium ahead of his teammate Kirill Smal (RUS – Prema Powerteam). Among the rookies, success for Andrea Kimi Antonelli (ITA – Prema Powerteam), who took advantage of Nikita Bedrin (RUS – Van Amersfoort Racing) being forced to drop out, making it an Italian one-two-three together with Francesco Braschi (ITA – Jenzer Motorsport) and Lorenzo Patrese (ITA – AKM Motorsport).

In the second race, marked out by safety cars, Tim Tramnitz took the lead shortly after the start, ahead of Leonardo Fornaroli. A contact between Joshua Dufek (AUT – Van Amersfoort Racing) and Sebastian Montoya gave Oliver Bearman the chance to reach the podium, despite a close battle with Nikita Bedrin, out after a touch with his teammate and Kirill Smal. Among the rookies, a first victory for Francesco Braschi, sixth in the overall standings and on the podium with Charlie Wurz (AUT – Prema Powerteam) and Lorenzo Patrese.

In race 3, it started raining a few minutes before the start, but the drivers all began the race on dry tires, behind the safety car. In the first few laps most of the big names switched to rain tires and once again Tramnitz came out on top, recovering positions and passing Joshua Dufek a few laps from the end. On the third step of the podium after a long absence was Kirill Smal, who managed to resist attacks from Francesco Simonazzi (ITA – BVM Racing). Among the rookies, victory for Nicolas Baptiste, now fifth in the overall standings ahead of Lorenzo Patrese and Charlie Wurz.
